Implementing changes the smart way: how to enthuse employees about your new Enterprise Portal
This is a familiar situation: You want to deploy a new software product in your business, but many of your employees are skeptical about it. To encourage support for your new Enterprise Portal from the start, we have a few tips for you:
- Involve your employees in the conceptual design of the portal. Not only will they give you valuable input about what they are looking for in the new portal. It will also increase the likelihood that there will be support for it from all departments.
- Generate a ROI calculation for 1 or 2 applications: This will show how much time and money can be saved compared to former approaches and will provide employees with a clear explanation about why the changes are necessary.
- Don’t ask too much of the users. Start with a few applications and gradually add more as user acceptance grows.
- Run an internal marketing campaign for the portal: promote the portal with creative flyers and posters to increase a positive attitude to the new platform.
- Carry out usability tests: A few ‘early adopters’ can help you to review the structure and general handling of the portal during development and help you to iron out any problems, fast.

The University Medical Center Freiburg is a tertiary care hospital. All medical specialties and subspecialties are represented at the institution. It is also one of the largest medical facilities in Europe. The University Medical Center Freiburg delivers excellent patient health care, and is well known for its contribution to research and teaching. The Center has more than 8,000 employees and is the biggest employer in the region. Moreover, it has 1,800 beds in over 110 wards. There are approximately 59,000 inpatient admissions annually and over 486,000 patient visits per year in the outpatient clinics.
