Increased flexibility, enhanced user management and a MS Office Business Adapter are among 30 new features to be incorporated into the latest version of Intrexx Xtreme.Microsoft Office Integration
The introduction of the new Microsoft Business Adapter comes as a direct response to the growing trend for companies to use Portals and Intranets to store and share information across the enterprise. The need for effective document management in the Portal environment has never been so important and the MS Business Adapter will enable businesses to dramatically simplify the entire process of document maintenance and storage.
Users will be able to quickly open, edit and store MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly on the Portal, eliminating the need to use a browser with all the associated download and upload mechanisms previously required.
The MS Office Adapter allows users to access appropriately enabled Intrexx applications using any common authentication method. The new version also makes it easier for individuals to research information stored on the Portal by enabling additional information about each document to be entered directly in Office and transferred into the Portal for storage.
The fact that Intrexx Xtreme 4.5 facilitates the integration of MS Office from 2003 onwards, unlike many other Portal solutions which only support MS Office 2007, means that Intrexx Xtreme users will be able to manage and access all documents without the need for a costly upgrade to the latest version of Office.
Improved user management
User management has been completely redesigned in Intrexx Xtreme 4.5. Businesses will now be able to replicate user management of existing LDAP servers, along with all objects – user-defined objects included.
Version 4.5 also makes it possible for organisational units, groups and roles to be set up in the Portal in exactly the same way as in LDAP systems. The Portal language in which the Portal is started when the user logs on can be stored in the user management system, a feature that will be most important for companies with international operations.
Increased flexibility for application development provided by Groovy
The integration of the dynamic, easy-to-use Groovy programming language will significantly increase the flexibility with which Portal developers can create Intrexx applications.
Groovy makes it easier to use existing libraries whilst also allowing developers to use Groovy objects and classes in Java. By simplifying the programming of processes and web services, it will ensure that Intrexx Xtreme can be easily adapted to incorporate future developments. Programming that filled a complete page in Java requires just a few lines in Groovy.
Intrexx Live! Forum – be part of the community
United Planet has launched the Intrexx Forum, to help new and existing users with technical issues related to the implementation of Intrexx Xtreme. A new editor makes text formatting easy and you can rate threads on the basis of how useful they were in solving particular problems. The Forum also simplifies the process of marking source code and uploading files.
